It’s always exciting when the next Muse is agreed upon. For a 4-day weekend or an extended family trip with the Ninas, Ninos, cousins, and grandma. So many more memories are waiting to be had! One thing is for sure though, the planning part is the least fun. It definitely doesn’t feel like “the journey is the destination.” but thanks to the Army and retail management, we have some experience in this department. Having to move so frequently make planning vacations and holidays are a breeze! That’s why the family leaves It all to me. Here is an inside look at the tabs that are open in my brain when the planning stages begin.
1. Get organized… You’ve got to create an itinerary!
Do what works for you. Grab a pack of Post-it, paper & pen, or a notebook. I personalize Excel sheets based on our plans. Find your niche.
2. *Instantly Grabs phone and scrolls through Pinterest app*
-it’s a must to reference Pinterest’s highlights are for our Muse. What’s the vibe really like? It is a generalized hub for valuable information and inspiration to better understand our muse. Pinterest is my go-to due to its easy accessibility. I typically collect my “must see or must do’s” through this valuable resource…

3. Next… I plot the destinations on Google Maps.
This is the most tedious part and my least favorite – because this is also when I come up with the logistics of how to get to our destination! Will we fly or drive? If we’re able to fly, what airline is the cheapest? Is a checked bag covered in the fee? Does our AMEX platinum have any benefits that we can use towards the trip? What would arrival time frames look like? most importantly, do we need to rent a car? How will we get around?
If we can travel by land, what is our guesstimate cost of gas in comparison to the cost of a flight? I note travel hours between on destination to another. Scouting out the route, this takes more collaboration with the husband who always troops the drive for us. If we’re passing through some interesting areas, we consider adding in detours.
That’s only half the battle. How about places to stay? Is Airbnb a better option for the size of our party? Or is it better to book separate rooms with our AMEX Platinum to gain points towards future trips… All these things are taken into consideration.
4. A vacation isn’t a vacation without GOOD EATS!
Using the foodie highlights sourced from Pinterest + Google Maps, you can get a better idea of what places you should hit in combination with the excursion for the day. Planning your route helps maximize time travel.
5.Lastly, search up “things to see/do in ___________” on Instagram.

This adds the destination to your algorithm. This is sure to keep you excited while counting down the days ‘till your next vacation!
